A devastated mother has described the heartbreaking moment she held her son’s broken skull after he was tragically killed while playing with fireworks while celebrating the Fourth of July.
Camrynn Ray McMichael, 11, was playing with fireworks outside their home in Mt. Vernon, Indiana when the accident happened around 9:40 pm, police said.
Emergency services rushed to the home after receiving a call about a ‘seriously injured’ boy caused by a firework accident.
Sadly, McMichael died on the way to a hospital.
His grieving mother Kyrra Lynn took to Facebook and shared how she “held my son’s broken skull and brain in my hands last night.
“That’s the reality. Don’t even f*****g buy those damn things! I’ll never see my son again over a f*****g firework. Don’t ever think it can’t happen to yours. Seriously.”
Lynn also updated her Facebook profile photo to her son and wrote: “My beautiful baby!”
The mother said that she has received overwhelming support after the tragic incident, with many giving kind ‘words, thoughts and prayers’ and others bringing her food.
“I want y’all to understand I don’t know what to say or what I need,” she expressed. “We all loved cam. I also want y’all to understand I have to get up, I have to make my own dinner, I have to move, cam wouldn’t want & expect anything less.
“I am not okay, but I will be, because I have to be.”
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the number of firework-related injuries increase around the Fourth of July.
Last year, there were 9 reported deaths and around 11,500 accidents in relation to fireworks. The most reported injuries were fingers and hands and other injuries were burns.
