A 24-year-old mother tragically died only ten days after giving birth to her second child, leaving her husband devastated.
Krystall Pitt and her husband Brayden Yates had been lining up at a post office in Perth after visiting their son, Toby, in the neonatal intensive care unit when she suddenly felt chest pains.
Within seconds, Mr. Yates realized that his wife was experiencing a heart attack.
In an interview with the West Australian, Mr. Yates recalled the moment: “I had her sit down and then pretty quick, she had a cardiac event.”
He said he called emergency services before performing CPR and setting up a defibrillator to save her life before paramedics arrived.
Ms. Pitt was placed into an induced coma but her condition rapidly deteriorated.
It is understood that the mother-of-two, who had a pre-existing blood condition, passed away from blood clots that had formed in her lungs and triggered a cardiac arrest.
The husband said their son Toby, who was bourn four weeks premature, was developing well. The couple also have a 14-month-old daughter named Aurora.
Mr. Yates now wants their story to serve as a reminder for people to ‘cherish every moment’ with their loved ones.
“The super crazy thing, the day before, we were talking about how precious life was and you never know when your last day will be,” he expressed.
“You’ve got to live to the fullest.”
The grieving father also said that he will make sure to tell their children ‘how amazing and caring’ their mom was.
“I’ve got a heap of videos and photos that she recorded, especially during the first year of my daughter’s life, so I can always share those with her,” he added.
