A mother has come under fire after revealing she had pierced her baby daughter’s ear on the day she was born.
The anonymous lady in question sparked outrage on TikTok where she posted a seemingly innocent video in which she compared pictures of her daughter from the time she was born to photos taken when the child was three months old.
Eagle-eyed viewers, however, quickly spotted a flower earring in the ear of the baby who was just hours old when she got her first piercing.
While some viewers defended the mother, she soon faced a barrage of criticism from people saying she was vain and cruel for forcing a piercing on her young baby.
“Why shouldn’t they get a choice if they want their ears pierced or not? I am going to let my babies decide when they understand these things,” someone wrote.
“Wow, this is another level for me… I just can’t understand. And it hurts the same as when they are older! Don’t fool yourself,” another said.
One mother suggested: “Maybe it’s just me but on the day my children were born getting their ears pierced was very far down my list of concerns.”
Following the backlash, the mother defended her decision saying the hole in her daughter’s ear was made by neonatologists at the hospital where she gave birth.
“When they are 2-3 days old, they don’t feel pain like a year or two!” the woman claimed.
“The holes are given to them by neonatologists (doctors specializing in the care of newborns) in the hospital at birth.”
While it is not clear where the mother is from, several viewers appeared to back her up saying babies commonly get piercings in their cultures.
“In my country they pierce the baby girls on the first day they are born,” one woman wrote.
“I love the earrings <3 Good job mama and congrats. Ignore all the hate,” another said.
