A father married his son’s ex-girlfriend, who was only in the sixth grade when they first met.
Paul, 51, tied the knot with Sydney Dean, 27, after almost ten years since they started dating. The couple share a 24-year age gap.
According to Mirror, Sydney was only 11 when she first met her ex-boyfriend’s dad, who would eventually become her husband.
After the teens broke up, they remained friends and never expected that their relationship would have a completely different dynamic.
Sydney said that when her ex-boyfriend got a new girlfriend, she became a third wheel and would often have conversations with his father Paul instead.
“I never expected to fall in love with Paul and we met in a non-traditional way, but I’m so happy I did,” Sydney shared.
The two started dating after Sydney celebrated her 16th birthday. They spent years convincing both sides of the families that their relationship was real, and in 2016, they finally got married.
“My mum already knew who Paul was and from the few times they have talked, they got along just fine,” Sydney said. “But when I first told my mum that we were together, she was not happy.
“The age gap really got to her and it stayed that way for about a year – eventually she came around.
“(After this) we would go to her house almost every weekend just to hang out or have a BBQ.”
Sydney’s mother is now a hundred percent supportive of them.
“In the beginning my father didn’t like the age gap either and as he lives out of state, he didn’t see him as much. But now, he really likes him,” she shared.
But for Paul’s two children, the pair believe that his youngest did not agree with their relationship at first. But now that they are married, he supports them and hangs out with them every other weekend.
“Now all the family is OK with us being together,” Sydney shared.
