Having a sick child can turn into an absolute nightmare for any parent but what would you do if you found out that your child was misdiagnosed and left fighting for their life?
This is the horror story of one mother who says her five-year girl is struggling to make it through each passing day, thanks to doctors who dismissed her condition as just constipation.
Dulcie O’Kelly started to complain to her mother about her severe tummy pains and that’s when her mom rushed her to the doctor’s office last year in January.
The family who hails from Shropshire says that their daughter’s stomach had swollen to a great extent and that certainly made them so concerned.
But despite numerous visits to the doctor’s office, the parents were always told that there’s nothing to worry about and it’s just constipation that resulted in these signs and symptoms.
“My baby had the worst pains and the swelling had grown so much. Yet, no doctor ever sent her in for scans and that would have detected her growing tumor earlier,” the heartbroken mother began to explain.
Pushing for more answers from medical experts, the 39-year-old mom says that she assumed that her child was suffering from some sort of food intolerance. But in November of last year, her scan revealed the most horrifying discovery.
There was a massive tumor growing inside that measured nearly 17 centimeters in her stomach.
Doctors were alarmed as ever and immediately prescribed the child for a biopsy and that’s when they made the horrifying diagnosis of neuroblastoma.
The extremely aggressive form of cancer started to spread at an alarming and scary rate, affecting her pelvis, legs, spine, and bone marrow too. “How could my daughter have cancer?”- was the mom’s initial reaction.
With just days to live, this family hopes their young daughter’s condition can help create awareness for other parents and medical experts to be mindful of such incidents so that prompt action is taken before it’s too late.
