A seven-year-old girl suffered a brain injury and broke 15 bones in her eye sockets, skull, and roof of her mouth while on a family holiday.
Lily-Mae West was with her family in North Yorkshire when she was suddenly knocked over by a zorbing ball, hitting her face into the concrete ground.
Her heartbroken mother, Katie West, shared how her daughter was ‘badly bruised with panda eyes’ and how fluid leaked from the young girl’s brain.
In an interview with BBC, Katie said that it ‘happened so fast.’
“A zorb ball bumped into her, knocking her face-first to the ground,” she recalled. “Her tiny seven-year-old skull hit the rock-hard floor. It happened so fast.”
“Tears running down her face. It was awful. As a parent you never imagine anything like this happening,” she expressed.
The mother said that they stayed in the hospital for a week.
“Badly bruised, with panda eyes, and some fluid had leaked from the brain,” Katie said.
“Her brain injury isn’t severe, but we’ve noticed her behaviors have changed. She gets upset and isn’t as confident as she used to be.”
The parents are now raising money for Leeds General Infirmary where Lily-Mae received treatment as well as the charity that assisted them, Day One Trauma Support.
“We would love to raise as much as we can for two amazing causes,” Katie wrote on the fundraising page.
“Lily-Mae has been amazing and this is all her idea.”
The young girl will also run a lemonade stand outside her grandmother’s house so she could give back to those who had cared for her.
