A mother from Blackpool has admitted to brutally starving her disabled daughter to death.
24-year-old Debbie Leitch was a special child who suffered from Down’s Syndrome. Her body was recovered by authorities inside her residence in Blackpool in the year 2019.
At first, her mother refused to take any responsibility for the crime but as her trial date is just days away, she has reportedly gone on to accept the accusations piled against her, admitting to the horrifying crime.
A report explained how Debbie tragically died from severe neglect and emancipation and when paramedics arrived at the scene, they were shocked to see how the young woman was suffering from the worst form of scabies, which is a skin infection. That proved the poor attention that she was given by her mother who chose to isolate her.
49-year-old mother Elaine Clarke has been charged for gross neglect and manslaughter after she admitted to the charges placed upon her at the Preston Crown Court, approximately 10 days before her actual trial was supposed to begin.
A total of six different people have been arrested in relation to the victim’s death, revealed local media reports.
Temporarily, the mother was being remanded in custody as she is due for her sentencing which will begin on February 7.
On the other hand, the mother’s ex-partner had initially also been charged for allowing the woman’s death to occur since she was a vulnerable adult. However, sources claim that all of those charges had later been dropped.
The judge for the case had recently instructed the mother: “You are well aware of the unavoidable outcome that you will soon be going to prison, and I believe that the time has arrived for me to remand you in jail, to ensure you arrive on time, for the next occasion,” she boldly stated.
