A father was left outraged after his mother-in-law gave whiskey to his 6-month-old daughter who was teething.
Taking to Reddit, the mother of the child said that her husband was not happy with the way the mother-in-law acted to help their baby.
“My mum does some old (fashioned) things and she’s really into herbs and natural healing and such, so she wanted to try rubbing whiskey on my daughter’s gums,” she wrote.
The mother then explained that her mom rubbed whiskey on her and her siblings when they were teething so she let her do it to her baby.
“It did seem to calm my daughter down a bit,” she went on.
But when she told her husband about the treatment, he was ‘furious.’
“He said that’s harmful to our daughter and it does not relieve any pain,” the mother continued, adding that her husband got upset and told her that she should not have let her mother do something like that.
“He told me I couldn’t bring our daughter to my mother’s anymore,” she added.
The mother then said that her husband has since called the next couple of days off of work to watch her every second with their baby.
“I feel this is unfair,” she added.
Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts on the situation, with one person writing: “YTA (You’re the A***ole) yeah. I mean, you know alcohol is unsafe. It also happens not to work as a topical analgesic; if the baby quietens down, it’s because of the general sedative effect of alcohol.”
Another wrote: “You’re 28 and a mom. You need to make your own judgments, not just listen to your mom without question. And in this case, your judgment was to let your mom give your infant alcohol. Does that sound trustworthy to you?”
A third said: “Her husband literally took two days off work to micromanage parenting because of this? That’s excessive. It’s called having a conversation between two adults, saying ‘we shouldn’t do this again’, and moving on!”
