A father has lost both of his legs after he threw himself to save his daughters, aged 1 and 3, from being pulled by a motorized snow blower.
David Miln, his wife Clare, and their children Anna, 1, and Isla, 3, were enjoying a day on the slopes at Mammoth Mountain in Northern California when the incident happened.
According to People, a snow blower crashed into the family and the father didn’t think twice when he threw himself over his daughter so they wouldn’t be pulled into the machine.
Both David and Isla, 3, got injured.
A GoFundMe was set up to help with the medical expenses. “Dave’s actions ultimately saved the lives of the girls, keeping Anna under his body and doing his best with Isla. However, Isla still entered the machine. Clare was able to make split-second decisions that saved her family’s lives before being transported with the girls to hospital,” it read.
It also said that David spent more than an hour in the machine before emergency services arrived to remove him and take him to a hospital.
“Dave is now a double amputee; above the knee of the left and below the knee on the right, as well as breaking both femurs, pelvis, a number of his lower vertebrae, a sacral and finally 3 ribs,” it continued.
“Isla has suffered breaks in both of her legs and her pelvis, as well as other wounds, and had 3 surgeries and may require more. She is expected to make a full physical recovery.”
The family has been transferred to Sydney to continue their recovery.
The GoFundMe page has raised $72,000 of he $100,000 target.
“Dave still maintains his dark sense of humor and razor-sharp wit,” the statement read. “(He has) shown strength and resilience beyond comprehension.”
