A photo showing a terminally ill young boy comforting his younger brother has gone viral and is breaking people’s hearts.
It was the year 2019 when 15-year-old Ian was diagnosed with bone cancer. Following months of chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumors, the teenager was finally declared cancer-free.
Just two years later, however, the family was left devastated when doctors discovered that Ian’s cancer had not only returned but also spread throughout his entire body.
Ian and his parents have since been told that the terminally ill boy doesn’t have much time left and that “there is nothing else they could do.”
Ian was also forced to break the news to his younger brother, Peter, who broke into tears after learning that his sibling and his role model didn’t have much time left.
In a heart-wrenching photo shared by the family to raise awareness, Ian can be seen embracing his sobbing younger brother and kissing him on the forehead.
“Without speaking, this photo conveys a stronger message than words ever will. This past week, Ian and his family would learn that there was nothing else they could do,” Benjamin Elliott, a presumed relative, wrote on Facebook as he shared the photo.
“The cancer that had ravaged his body in the past and he had beat would soon be the same cancer that kills him.”
Benjamin went on to say that Ian broke into tears after his diagnosis not because he was afraid for himself but because he wanted to “do one good thing in the world” before leaving his loved ones.
“From here on out, while he says he is sad, he also admits he’s okay with dying,” the post went on.
“He refuses to sit around dying and instead chooses to be busy living until his death becomes reality. The truth is that Ian refuses to live for himself. He chooses only to live for others until the moment he takes his very last breath.”
Our thoughts are with Ian and the family during this challenging time.
