Albina Sokolova claims she began working for a company in the UK that was called Humdinger Limited where her designated post was a worker at the Hull Factory. Despite serving the company as a loyal employee for nearly 10 years, things took a turn for the worst.

In the year 2015, her company informed her about a new policy that required the English language to be spoken at all times while working.

Moreover, she explained how that was a challenge for her as English was not her native language. On several occasions, Sokolovo explained how she was constantly disciplined as she admitted to conversing in her native language.

In addition to that, she found it very hard to cooperate with others during major meetings and projects as she was denied a request for a translator too. Despite zero complaints from her fellow colleagues or her supervisors, she continued to be treated unfairly for her poor English skills.

Therefore, to help her out, Sokolovo began taking lessons from her young daughter who helped her with English lessons. But soon, enough was enough. Sokolovo felt it was time to take her case to the courts where she was awarded by the employment tribunal in the district of Hull.

Citing racism claims, the tribunal mentioned how the company was at fault for ‘indirect race discrimination’ as well as for causing indirect injury to her feelings too.
