Over the years, the world became familiar with so many examples that just might blow your mind. However, once you actually stop and stare, you realize that we’re surrounded by countless weird cases. Above all, you start to wonder where they actually originated from in the first place.

Panic with Pokemon
In 1997, panic spread from all over the globe with everyone’s favorite Pokemon series. Apparently, thousands of Japanese kids fell ill. They all watched a certain episode of Pokemon. With that constant fear in mind, the US never aired that very episode from the hit series.
Some explain how the kids suffered from seizures, as well as nausea. And the amount of the population involved was around 12,000. Therefore, you can only imagine the hysteria it caused around the globe.
The Charlie Charlie challenge
The famous Charlie Charlie challenge had many in awe. While one certain version of the game arose in South Africa, the hashtag of #charliecharliechallenge soon picked up pace like no other. However, you won’t believe what the game is all about.
Here, participants ask a series of questions that revolve around some form of supernatural being called Charlie. And Charlie is the one directing the whole game by the direction with which it moves the pencils. Weird, yes, but again, it’s another one of those prime examples of mass hysteria.
But wait, there is more. In 2015, 4 people reported how they ended up in the hospital. They imagined that Charlie possessed them in Columbia. Likewise, something similar went on in the Dominican Republic.
The June Bug Epidemic
In 1962, reports show how a mysterious illness took around 62 workers, under its wing. This caused severe numbness, vomiting episodes, and headaches too. Moreover, many assumed that the June bug was taking center stage. In reality, however, it was all mass hysteria that took place due to stress.

During the Middle Age era of France, there are reports of how a nun began meowing, all of a sudden. Soon, other nuns also began joining in on the ordeal. And then you had the whole covenant-making sounds like kittens. However, things got out of hand, really quick.
Soon, authorities called in soldiers. And that’s just so they could control the meowing nuns with threats of whipping those who didn’t stop.
