A selfless employee at La Jolla Zip Zoom Zipline on the La Jolla Indian Reservation in the Pauma Valley, sacrificed his life to save a woman who was about to die from falling off during her ride at the zipline in California.
34-year-old Joaquin Romero tried to save a woman who was about to fall from a height of 100ft, but after knowing that it is impossible to save her life without losing his own, he decided to sacrifice his own life.
According to a source, the woman slid out on the line during her trip. Joaquin tried to get her back on the platform but got dragged away from the platform during this. He realized that if both of them stayed this way hanging off the zipline, it would break because of extra weight.
At this moment, he made a decision that won many hearts.
He decided to jump off the zipline so it would be able to hold the woman. He suffered from many fatal injuries after he fell off from a height of 100ft. Cal fired rescued Joaquin by using a low-angle rope system and sent him to the Sharp Memorial Hospital. He was declared dead on Monday.
According to La Jolla Zip Zoom Zipline, the loss of this selfless and hardworking employee is heartbreaking for them.
Their administration is conducting a comprehensive investigation in cooperation with federal and state authorities. Around 16 people die every year from ziplines. The La Jolla Tribe started its campground in 1930. Recently in 2015, they introduced the La Jolla zipline, which was getting popular day by day.
Three different ziplines, ranging from 300 to 2,700 feet, are offered and can reach up to speeds of 55 mph.
