Police are investigating a deadly stampede that killed eight people at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Texas.
Houston Chief of Police Troy Finner said at a press conference that the victims were aged between 14 and 27.
“One of the narratives was that some individual was injecting other people with drugs. We do have a report of a security officer, according to the medical staff that was out and treated him last night,” he said at a press conference on Saturday.
“He was reaching over to restrain or grab a citizen and he felt a prick in his neck,” he continued.
“He went unconscious, they administered Narcan. He was revived, and medical staff did notice a prick similar to a prick you would get if somebody was trying to inject.”
It is not clear what drug was injected but Narcan is used for reviving people who have overdosed on opioids.
On Friday, hundreds of festival-goers were seen running and stampeding through a VIP entrance at the Live Nation-organized event.
Travis Scott stopped multiple times during his performance when he saw many fans in distress.
A viral video on Twitter showed people chanting ‘stop the show, stop the show!’
Speaking to Rolling Stone, ICU nurse and attendee Madeline Eskins said: “Fans were recording the concert and people doing CPR. Fans were yelling at the stage crew around us, saying stop the concert, people are dying. No one listened.”
Scott was later seen crying as Houston Fire Department Chief Samuel Pena said that the death toll could still rise.
The heartbreaking incident happened at 9:15 pm but the concert producer Live Nation stopped the show at 10:10 pm.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner confirmed that two of the eight people who died were under 18, two were 21 years old, two were 23, one was 27, and the other victim’s age is still not known.

He also said that 25 people were rushed to a hospital after the incident.
