A clip of a father’s inappropriate bonding with his kid’s nanny has caused an uproar on social media.
Andrew’s wife and mother of their two young sons, Rachel, 34, posted the video on TikTok alongside the caption “the nanny-dad content no one asked for.”
The video was shared on the account @raypo3, where her husband Andrew and her nanny Lizzie Norton, 23, take turns lifting each other up, wrapping their arms around each other.
Rachel wrote that: “this is what happens … when dad comes home before the nanny leaves.”
In the clip, she also writes, “watch those hands” as Andrew lift his nanny Lizzie high into the air as they attempt to recreate the iconic lift scene from the film Dirty Dancing. The dad’s fingers grip around her ribs as he lifts her up before he appears to graze under her breasts.
“You touched her b**bs!” Rachel said in the video.
To which his husband replied: “I know, I know” as he laughs, before turning away.
The pair attempt the lift a few more times, as Rachel films, with Andrew once again appearing to hold near her chest.
The clip ignited a wave of debate about the “appropriateness” of the dad with the 23-year-old nanny.
Rachels’ TikTok account has about 95,000 followers, and the “Dirty Dancing” video has received 7.2 million views.
The TikTok video was also reposted by an account called “The Best Loved Nanny,” which offers advice and discussion points for aspiring nannies, where it has been viewed 5.3 million times.
Michele Garza, the person behind “The Best Loved Nanny” account, said in a second video responding to the clip that it was important for nannies to “model healthy behavior” with their employers.
“With the video, I don’t think that anything has actually gone wrong,” Michele said. “I just think that it has started to blur the lines.”
The video was met with fiery criticism online, with one person commenting: “the fact that they were both insanely comfortable doing this is unsettling.”
“What they’re doing doesn’t even look fun,” a second commented. “They just like touching each other.”
“My wife divorced me solely for watching this video,” a third viewer joked.
“This video will be played in divorce court,” said another.
“Reminds me of the stuff we’d do in middle school to flirt without admitting we were flirting,” another one added.
In the days following the viral clip, Rachel posted three TikTok videos to her account defending the original video and denying allegations of “grooming”.
Lizzie joined her for the videos, which received a combined viewership of 5.5 million.
Rachel has defended the behavior as innocent and insists Lizzie is like “family”, but many commenters are adamant that what they see constitutes inappropriate flirting and they’ve warned that it’s a major red flag.
In the video, Rachel said she and her husband met Lizzie while she was working at the daycare center where they drop their eldest son while they went to work.
“She was always the nicest, the sweetest,” Rachel explained. “She would send pictures all day, and we would talk all day. She wasn’t like the other people that worked there, and I wasn’t like the other moms. We were, like, friends.”
And Lizzie agreed saying: “we instantly became friends”.
The mom of two said that Lizzie started watching over the couple’s two children at their home when she lost her job at a local daycare center because of the COVID pandemic.
“In the beginning of the pandemic, my husband worked from home while I went to work, and he and Lizzie did see each other every day,” she said.
But these days, she said the pair rarely see one another as Andrew now works in an office, leaving for work before Lizzie arrives in the morning and arriving home after she’s gone home.
“On the rare occasion she does see him, they’re so happy to see each other because she’s like our little sister,” Rachel explained. “We love her to death. She’s really goofy and weird and we can joke around and mess with her, and vice versa.”
“Andrew and her are funny and she’s like our little sister. When she dates and makes bad decisions on other things, we give her advice,” she added. “We tell her we’re disappointed in her, we tell her we’re proud of her.”
She then added that Lizzie was “not a minor”.
“I’m not being groomed,” Lizzie said. “Everybody can calm down.”
Lizzie also insisted that Andrew didn’t touch her chest, saying: “I don’t have any b**bs to touch.”
Rachel implored people to “stop attacking” their nanny.
Meanwhile, some TikTok users agreed that there was nothing inappropriate going on in the video.
“Girl, don’t feel like you need to explain this, people are just insecure in their own relationships,” one viewer said. “She seems really sweet.
“Speaking from someone who’s a nanny who is close with the family, it is possible to have a relationship like this with the family!” another one added.
