A couple have been charged with killing their 6-year-old daughter after they claimed that she suddenly vanished while they were sleeping.
45-year-old Lehua Kalua and her husband 52-year-old Isaac Sonny Kalua have been charged with murdering Isabella ‘Ariel’ Kalua after they reported her missing.
According to reports, Honolulu Police Department said that the Hawaiian couple took the life of their adopted daughter a month before they reported her disappearance.
Isabella’s body hasn’t been found but the FBI and authorities are searching the couple’s property and Pearl Harbor Shipyard, where Sonny works.
The couple adopted the child two years ago. Since she has lived with them, she has suffered serious injuries. But according to Hawaii News Now, the Department of Child Services ruled that no foul play had taken place.
Reports revealed that Isabella suffered a broken finger but the couple claimed that the injury resulted from her slamming her hand in a door.
Only a few months later, the young girl returned to the hospital with a broken leg, which the couple claimed was from a trampoline injury.
On September 13, Lehua and her husband told police that their daughter had disappeared in the middle of the night.
Authorities then said that their report was a lie and that the child had already been dead for a month.
It is not clear how Isabella died or what kind of evidence investigators have against the Kaluas. However, police said they’re confident the evidence points to the couple ‘and no one else.’
The pair have other children who are already in the custody of authorities.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Honolulu Police Department Interim Chief Rade Vanic said: “At the onset there was a lot of questions Some things just weren’t adding up for us in the last week to ten days some evidence has come to light.”
