Knoxville’s District Attorney recently released the bodycam footage of the 17-year-old Tennessee student that was shot dead by officers.
Local media outlets confirmed how police offices shot Anthony Thompson Jr dead at a high school bathroom stall. However, the district attorney announced today how the officers will not be charged for the act.
The 17-year-old student attended Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville as a junior but on April 12, things took a turn for the worse when police officers shot him down at the school.
During a recent press conference held for the case specifically, Knoxville’s District Attorney mentioned how the black teen’s family begged her not to release the bodycam footage tapes today. However, the footage came out today after the state’s Bureau of Investigation gave in two separate stories of the killing.
The entire incident started off when Thompson was accused of engaging in acts of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend. Moreover, the white mum of the ex-girlfriend now claims that she regrets calling 911 for help regarding the complaint she made against him.
Meanwhile, Charme Allen, who is Knoxville’s DA spoke in line with the decision to not release the video immediately as more and more demands for them started to increase after the shooting’s aftermath. In the same way, the DA called the shooting an act of self-defense that was performed by the cops.
In the bodycam footage, Thompson is seen clearly trying to wrestle up against the officers over a gun that is present in his pocket. Allen mentioned, “At the end of the day, we have all found that the shooting performed by officer Clabough was in fact justified.”
The TBI had specifically mentioned in the shooting’s aftermath how the 17-year-old teen had in fact fired at the officers first.
And then he was killed during the return of fire by the cops. But, two days later, the agency mentioned how Thompson’s gun actually did not fire the bullet that hit the officer. Therefore, there were obvious conflicting reports between the two.
