The innocent children comprised of fairly young age groups that included 3,4,6, and 8 to be exact.
If that news wasn’t chilling enough, fury arose when fire investigators confirmed how the housefire began in the first place. Here, they confirmed how the children’s parents fell asleep, after indulging in a cigarette affair.
Cause of housefire revealed
Yes, it was due to the reckless behavior of 26-year-old Natalie Unit and her 30-year-old husband, Chris Moulton. They were responsible for smoking cigarettes in their bed and then falling asleep.
Meanwhile, news agencies confirmed how the massive blaze engulfed their entire residence, situated in the Stafford district of Staffordshire.
The Coroner for South Staffordshire explained how investigators found the remains of an ashtray in the giant bed’s mattress springs. It was melted inside, clearly indicating how the blaze began in the first place.
Careless parents held in police suspicion after the reckless incident
Natalie and Chris were held within police custody, right after the devastating ordeal took place.
However, the couple denied any claims regarding how they were responsible for the fire. But authorities later confirmed how they were in fact responsible for gross negligence.
Investigators also went on to claim how this was indeed a tragic case of manslaughter. As months passed on, details on the case went public. Soon, it was revealed how the mother complained of post-traumatic stress, relating to the sudden death of her kids.
She simply couldn’t remember how the events unfolded. When questioned about smoking and the use of cigarettes, she explained how she had no clue. Moreover, she also confirmed that she didn’t recall what she did after the massive house fire broke out.
On the other hand, the father of three of the 4 kids confirmed how he believed it all began due to a landing.
Recent inquest reveals details of the event
A recent inquest went on to confirm how the children’s death took place.
They explained that all of the kids died after inhaling the fumes of an unextinguished cigarette. Moreover, it went on to claim that the cigarette was in fact present upon the bedding in the master bedroom, where the parents resided.
Furthermore, a hearing on the case showed had the parents received warnings previously by social workers. They advised the parents to quit smoking indoors as it could lead to the dangers of a house fire.
Even with this much evidence, the parents denied that they were to blame for the house fire.
“The fire began due to poor recklessness using cigarettes,” exclaimed the fire investigator. “Ms. Unitt received countless warnings to avoid smoking indoors. However, the couple still continued to do so.”
