Gabby Petito’s boyfriend Brian Laundrie was eaten by wild pigs and alligators in the Florida park where his remains were discovered, locals claimed.
His body was found during the FBI search shortly after his parents joined the hunt.
The 23-year-old went missing early last month after he returned from a road trip without his fiancée Gabby Petito, 22, and refused to cooperate with the investigation into her disappearance.
The FBI confirmed that Laundrie’s remains were found in an area previously covered by water.
Speaking to the New York Post, John Widmann – who lives just a mile from the reserve – said: “I walk there all the time and there won’t be much of the remains left.
“There’s alligators, but the worst thing is the wild pigs. They’re evil animals and will eat anything. Any flesh out in the open will not be wasted.
“There won’t be much for the coroner to work on. Nature doesn’t waste anything.”
Petito’s body was found in a remote area in Wyoming on September 19.
A post-mortem revealed that the 22-year-old, who was last seen on August 27 when she apologized to a restaurant staff after her fiancé argued with them, had been strangled.
She posted her last photo on Instagram on August 25, the same day she had her last conversation with her mother by phone.
Laundrie was named the person of interest in Petito’s death and the FBI launched a manhunt for the 23-year-old.
Laundrie family lawyer Steve Bertolino told Fox News in a statement: “Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found in the reserve are indeed Brian’s.
“We have no further comment at this time and we ask you to respect the Laundrie family’s privacy at this time.”
