A 13-year-old boy whose life was cut short after he was killed by a stray bullet while he was playing video games in his bedroom has been identified.
Iran Moreno-Balvaneda from California was shot when someone fired into his home on the 900 block of North Raymond Avenue.
According to reports, he still managed to walk to their living room where he collapsed in front of his shocked family.
Iran’s parents and siblings saw how first responders tried to stabilize him and rushed him to the hospital where he passed away.
Speaking to ABC News, furious neighbors said they are tired of the shootings in their area due to the ongoing fight between two gangs.
Neighbor Stephanie Johnson said: “That young man was just at home, doing what he was to supposed to (be doing). Playing video games, staying out of trouble, staying off the streets.”
Pasadena police Chief John Perez said during a press conference on Sunday: “It’s tragic. I want us all to be aware that we hear words like ‘tragedy’ and ‘senseless’, but that gets old. This needs to stop.”
Police said that 3 to five gunshots were fired and there was no reason to conclude that the family was targeted.
Residents held a candle-lit vigil on the street in front of the victim’s home.
Neighbor Isabel Banuelos told CBS News: “There’s so much going on in our neighborhoods. I think all parents that are around here, we just wish things would stop.”
Neighbor Jovita Gonzales told the Pasadena Star-News that she saw Iran’s parents waiting for police outside while the mother was crying and screaming.
“Without saying anything, she reached out and held me,” she said. “She was pointing her, at her lung, and screaming: ‘They hurt my boy’ and kept asking if the ambulance was here.”
The grieving family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
