A 17-year-old boy from Texas told police that he was ‘sleeping’ when he stabbed his twin sister with a knife.
Benjamin Elliot allegedly confessed to killing Meghan Elliot and was booked into Harris County Jail for the incident, which happened inside their home in Katy.
A $100,000 bond has been set on Thursday morning but Benjamin was not present during the proceedings because he was in a mental health unit.
According to reports, Benjamin told police that he believed he was dreaming or sleeping at the time of the incident.
He said that he only realized what had happened when he already pulled the sharp knife from Meghan’s neck.
A prosecutor said, as per Click2Houston: “The defendant stated after realizing he was not dreaming, he removed the knife and placed it next to the complainant, turned on the light to the bedroom and applied pressure to the wound with a pillow.”
The teen called 911 and was told by the operator to perform CPR on his twin sister until paramedics arrived at their family home.
Benjamin also woke his parents up while he was on the line with the emergency dispatcher.
Their parents rushed into Meghan’s room and screamed when they saw him performing CPR on their daughter.
Meghan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lawyers said in court that Benjamin had not ingested any alcohol or drugs and had no history of sleep disorders.
Authorities said he will be tried as an adult.
Meghan and Benjamin Elliot both attended Cypress Park High School. According to 13WMAZ, neighbors recounted seeing them walking together to and from the bus stop.
One neighbor recalled seeing the 17-year-old boy open an umbrella to protect his sister from the rain.
