A young boy was shot dead while playing in his bedroom after a gunman opened fire on the street outside and sent a barrage of bullets into his house.
The “senseless” murder took place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where 13-year-old Kei’lan Allen was fatally wounded after his bedroom was riddled with 13 bullets of Friday evening.
After the authorities arrived at the scene, the police came across the child’s lifeless body and discovered a series of bullets throughout his home – including 13 in his bedroom alone.
Meanwhile, the police were forced to start using their business cards to secure evidence after running out of evidence bags due to the high amount of shell casings left outside the house after the shooting.
“It’s a senseless murder,” Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley vowed as the Violent Crimes Unit began investigating the case and looking for potential suspects.
“We see it all the time where adults are shot and it’s terrible. When it’s a kid, it takes it to another level. We’re going to do everything we can to make these arrests.”
After the senseless shooting, Kei’lan’s cousin, 26-year-old Casey Prewitt, paid a tribute to the young boy and revealed how the family is struggling with the horrific events.
“He was a very smart kid. He probably had over 30 books in his room,” Prewitt said.
The cousin also told AL.com how the boy’s terrified mother came across her son’s lifeless body after he failed to respond to her calls following the shooting.
“It just happened out of nowhere. It’s a tough time and I can’t say we’re handling it well,” Prewitt added.
“He was a phenomenal kid. A straight-A student. Very artistic. He could really draw. He was very mild mannered. He kept to himself. He wasn’t too much of a talker, he was much of a doer. He just got a lot done.”
Our thoughts are with Kei’lan Allen’s family and friends during these challenging times.
