A 13-year-old boy was killed by his own father after the child found photos of him eating feces from a diaper and wearing a red bra.
60-year-old Mark Redwine was sentenced to 48 years behind bars by La Plata County District Court Chief Judge Jeffrey Wilson for the murder of Dylan Redwine in 2012.
The Colorado father was convicted of child abuse resulting in death and second-degree murder.
Judge Wilson said that Redwine has taken no responsibility for his actions.
“The community needs to be protected from you. You need to be removed from society for a very long period of time,” the judge said on Friday.
“I’m going to sentence you to 48 years on both counts, with five years of parole, will be served concurrently. You’ll receive 1,540 days of credit for time served.”
It was in 2017 when Redwine was indicted in the disappearance of his teenage son, who was reported missing in 2012.
In 2013, Dylan’s remains were discovered only a few miles from Redwine’s home but his skull was found by hikers in 2015.
It took a jury less than a day of deliberations to convict Redwine in July.
Prosecutors argued that the 60-year-old murdered the young boy after they had an argument about photos of him eating feces from a diaper and wearing women’s lingerie.
It was in 2011 when Dylan and his brother had accidentally found the photos on their father’s computer. They looked at them in a locked bathroom while their father was sleeping, his brother Cory Redwine said in court.
Cory said that his brother was ‘pretty disgusted’ but he wanted to use the photos as leverage when he had an argument with his father one year later.
“Hey send me those poop pics of Papa because he gave me a speech about you guys being a bad example and I want to show him who he really is,” Dylan said in a text message to his brother in 2012.
Redwine was arrested following the grand jury indictment in 2017.
