President Joe Biden called upon the Senate to pass immediate gun control measures, in wake of the tragic Boulder massacre incident.
The tragic incident took place at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, where a 21-year-old gunman shot dead 10 innocent victims. Local media outlets confirmed how the gunman reportedly shot two victims in the store’s parking lot, right before he went ahead and shot down 8 more inside the store. The gruesome incident took place on Monday afternoon, leaving loved ones and citizens in absolute terror and grief.
Right after the incident, President Biden soon appeared on Tuesday for a press conference where he revealed how he did not wish to wait another minute or another hour longer before suggesting strict gun control measures.
The new law that was unveiled by the president in wake of the Colorado shooting massacre would now mean that all assault weapons would be banned.
In addition, gun violence would now be scrutinized with even more intensity, experts claim.Biden explained to the press how he passed a similar law when he was a senator and therefore he hoped to do the same now, urging the Senate to look into the matter immediately. “I did that in the past and it brought down the number of shootings relating to gun violence,” the president added.
“We clearly need to ban all assault weapons as well as high capacity magazines in this nation, once again.”
Among other similar efforts, the Senate spoke about how a similar decision took place in the year 2013, right after another mass shooting left 20 children dead, alongside 6 adults too. However, the decision failed to be implemented due to a 40-60 vote count.
On the other hand, the president also spoke about calling upon the Senate towards the passing of two other major House bills. One was related to checking out loopholes relating to background checks. The other was related to the expansion of background checks that include the sales of weapons such as guns.
