A beauty consultant has been charged with manslaughter after she injected a lethal dose of silicone into the backside of her 38-year-old patient.
47-year-old Lisa Fernandez from Houston, Texas was offering beauty injections without a license. She reportedly obtained silicone and illegally used them in procedures, court documents revealed.
She was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the death of Marja McClendon.
Prosecutors said that the 38-year-old made two appointments with Fernandez to get injections, which resulted in breathing problems and intense pain, according to KHOU11.
The first round of injections left McClendon feeling unwell, a witness account said in the filings. However, she came back for a second appointment as it did not achieve the result she wanted.
But McClendon experienced so much pain during the second round that Fernandez had to stop the procedure numerous times.
When she left the unlicensed beauty consultant’s home, she was experiencing difficulty breathing and was coughing up blood.
McClendon was later rushed to an emergency room but returned home before medics evaluated her.
She was then readmitted to a hospital where she passed away due to complications associated with a silicone pulmonary embolism. Her tragic death was ruled a homicide.
Fernandez admitted to knowing that her patient had been taken to a hospital but she did not go to the facility to explain to the medics about the substance and how the procedures were performed.
The fake beauty consultant allegedly told police that she knew that performed incorrectly, injections could lead to serious harm, or even death, according to ABC 13.
She made her first court appearance on Wednesday, with a bail set at $40,000.
