A one-month-old baby girl has been rescued after a Good Samaritan found her sleeping alone on a make-shift bed inside a drainage pipe.
The little girl was seen sleeping on a carton and cloth under a bridge in Laguna, Philippines.
Fortunately, a concerned man named Jefferson Nazareno spotted the baby while he was on his way home. He and his friends then reported it to local officials who rushed to the scene.
Calamba Public Order and Safety Office officials arrived to rescue the child. They also searched for her parents who were found selling garlands on the street.
Speaking about the moment he found the baby alone inside the pipe, Mr. Nazareno said: “I noticed that there seemed to be someone at the mouth of the pipe.
“At first, I thought it was just a doll but when I passed by I saw that it really was a child. That’s why I took the photo.”
The child’s parents and other homeless individuals who were living under the bridge were taken to a local social welfare facility.
The mother told social workers that they were sleeping inside the pipe because they did not have a house.
CCPSO chief Jeff Rodriguez said the family would need to be rescued because their living conditions were very dangerous.
“It was worrying because the child was in a drainage pipe alone and could have been swept away by a downpour,” he added.
The child and her parents are now under the care of social welfare development.
CPSO officers also closed off the underside of the bridge to prevent homeless people from living in the dangerous area.
