A mother lost her newborn baby in a tragic accident involving a swooping bird.
As Queensland Ambulance revealed in an interview with 7NEWS.com.au, first responders were called to Holland Park West in Queensland, Australia, after receiving reports of a mother who tripped while carrying her newborn baby, Mia, in her arms.
As it was later discovered, the mom stumbled and fell as she attempted to protect her baby by ducking and dodging a magpie that came swooping at them.
Unfortunately, the 5-month-old baby was severely injured during the fall and later died at the hospital.
“The Queensland Ambulance Service medical director and critical care paramedics responded and transported the infant to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition,” Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said after rushing the infant to the hospital.
Following Mia’s premature passing, the family of the baby girl’s devastated parents launched a GoFundMe page to help them with their struggles.
“Mia’s arrival made Jacob and Simone’s lives complete, they constantly doted over her, showered her with love, and shared her for all their loved ones to adore,” the page read.
“No words can begin to describe the torture Jacob and Simone are going through. A life cut so short, much sooner than any one of us expected. Mia was and forever will be the light of Jacob and Simone’s lives.”
After raising over $140,000 for the distressed parents, the relatives added:
“Please know, Jacob and Simone have not asked for anything and certainly do not expect anything. We know however, they will be eternally grateful for what this will do for them. Your money will be spent by Jacob and Simone to farewell Mia, and cover their day to day expenses whilst they receive the medical and professional help so they can get through this difficult time.”
According to the reports from the area where the incident took place, aggressive magpies pose a big problem and are known for being capable of attacking people and other animals.
