A 4-month-old baby tragically passed away recently after his mother left him alone so that she could chat on the phone with her friends.
According to local media reports, little Renzo was just four months old. He reportedly slipped out of his bath seat and then fell in the water. Soon, he was found by his mother who realized that the child had drowned.
The courtroom heard the mum’s side of the story where she tried to defend her actions in the most tragic scenario imaginable. Simone Perry explained how she only left her baby for a mere five minutes. She admitted that she received a phone call from her close friend and hence stepped out for a short time.
But little did she know that her actions would result in the death of her beautiful son who she dearly loved with each breath. Now, the mother has been sentenced to jail for her actions that lead to the death of young Renzo.
“I thought he would be safe and secure in his bath seat,” she cried. “I had no idea things could possibly take a turn for the worst,” she added in front of the court. But young Renzo slipped out and then fell into water that was about 13cm deep.
Initially, the investigation revealed how the mother lied to police officials about how the baby had drowned. She never spoke about how she was on the phone during the time of his death.
Thankfully, phone records showed how the mum was in fact not on the phone for just five minutes. Instead, the records revealed how the phone call was 17 minutes long. She had also sent out a WhatsApp text, moments before she found Renzo. On that note, she rushed to call 999 for help.
Now, Perry has been charged with the unlawful killing of her son by gross negligence.
