According to local media outlets, Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all of his three counts, which included second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter too. While this was the verdict that many had hoped for around the nation, the Squad members AOC and Cori Bush did go about mentioning how they felt the verdict was not justice.

Instead, they spoke about how it was only a ‘step.’ In particular, Representative Cori Bush went on to address a press conference with some other members of the Black Caucus. This is where she spoke about how the verdict was a step forward when it came to further equality.

On the other hand, Ayanna Pressley was pictured by the press in a bright pink blazer, where she emotionally hugged Bush, right after the duo heard the verdict for the Derek Chauvin case.

In the same way, Ilham Omar also gave her thoughts on the verdict. Omar’s district covers the entire location of Minneapolis. Therefore, she spoke about how the verdicts definitely felt a little different for the community, and the thought of getting justice definitely felt like it was long overdue.

Other reps gave out their feelings like Rashida Tlaib who claimed that the fight for justice continues. Moreover, Jamaal Bowman also gave a major shout-out to the long list of organizers who have fought long and hard over the years with demands for justice.

Without a doubt, Cori Bush was the most outspoken of the bunch who mentioned again how the verdict was a clear example of accountability of some sort but not exactly the true meaning of justice. “Justice for us, it’s saving lives.”
