Alec Baldwin, 63, has shared a series of screenshots as evidence from a Facebook post by a Rust crew member who made it clear that everyone followed all safety protocols, contrary to claims that the film set was unsafe.
After the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins, some crew members came forward with claims of alleged poor working conditions and safety concerns seemingly pinning the blame of the fatal shooting to the producers of the film.
But in a long social media post, Terese Magpale Davis – who worked as a costume designer for Rust – dismissed the ‘narrative’ of events on the set, stating that ‘the story being spun of us being overworked and surrounded by unsafe chaotic conditions is bull[redacted]’.
Davis defended the Rust producers in the post, writing that ‘concerns were addressed and met’, while calling out the camera crew who initiated a walkout for ‘negotiating in bad faith’, claiming ‘they only cared about themselves’.
Davis also stood by Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the film’s armorer, explaining that while she was inexperienced, the 24-year-old was fully qualified and trained under a well-known armorer.
Instead, Davis argued that the unfortunate incident was about ‘gun safety’, adding that if more people on set were familiar with gun protocols, it would be easier to point out when something appeared ‘a bit off.’
“I know that’s not as much fun to jump on as vilifying the producers,” Davis wrote in the post, asking people to ‘not be one more person with a pitchfork in a mob that has no idea what you’re talking about’.
Davis also claimed that her own account of what happened on the Rust set was ‘provable’.
The costume designer also said that she asked the film’s producers why they did not speak out against the allegations being made against them, and she was told that they wanted to keep the focus on remembering the late Hutchins.
Davis’ lengthy Facebook post was shared on Baldwin’s Instagram account through a series of individual posts.
The actor himself also broke his silence for the first time about the lethal shooting over the weekend and paid tribute to Hutchins.
