Afghan comedian who was known for joking about and mocking the Taliban was arrested and executed by firing squad.
Nazar Mohammad, also known as Khasha Zwan, was a comedian and former member of the Afghan National Police who poked fun at various topics and groups – including the Taliban – through his dances and songs.
As Human Rights Watch reported, the comedian was detained and killed by the Taliban in late July after the jihadists took over the city of Kandahar.
In a trending video taken at the time of Zwan’s arrest, the comedian is seen sitting in the back of a car with jihadists watching his every move on both sides.
On his way to the firing squad where he was executed by the Taliban, Zwan reportedly continued mocking the group, prompting one of the insurgents to slap him in the face twice.
According to the reports, the comedian was found dead with multiple bullet holes after being gunned down by a Taliban firing squad.
While the group initially failed to take responsibility for the killing, they eventually admitted to the murder and confirmed that the jihadists seen next to Zwan in the video are Taliban.
Though the Taliban promised they would become a newer version of themselves amid the takeover of Afghanistan, fears of revenge killings have sparked following Zwan’s death.
Just last week, Taliban soldiers executed nine men after taking over the Ghazni province, Amnesty International reported.
Recently, the Taliban also arrested and killed General Haji Mullah Achakzai, a regional police chief, even though the group’s leaders promised that Afghan people who fought against them would be spared from revenge killings.
