A man who was walking his dog was left stunned after finding a deadly spiked weapon in a spot popular among families with young children.
The dog walker, who asked to remain anonymous, was walking through Tame Valley Park in Greater Manchester, England, when he came upon a device that appears to be a homemade caltrop.
The ‘denial weapon’ features a long tube with spiky nails welded into it on three sides.
As the man claimed, the caltrop was lying on the ground in a spot where parents often take their young children to play in nature.
The dog walker also warned that there could be more similar devices planted nearby as he urged fellow park visitors to be vigilant.
“Found this today on the old power station land in Carrbrook, hidden in a puddle that my dog ran through and knocked it out of,” he wrote in his post.
“Could have ended a lot worse, but if someone’s made the effort of making one, there’s definitely more.”
He continued: “Kids play on that land, people walk dogs and ride horses. If a horse was to step on that, it would be thousands of pounds in vet bills.
“I know these have probably been made to stop the off road bikes/cars, but at the end of the day they could kill a small child.”
According to the man, he has since his discovery alerted the local landowners as well as the police.
