Former professional skateboarder Bam Margera has shared how he was ‘basically pronounced dead’ during his hospital stay after experiencing multiple seizures.
The 43-year-old was admitted to the hospital last month after being diagnosed with pneumonia that was ‘complicated’ by Covid, the TMZ reported.
He was then placed on a ventilator and received treatment in the intensive care unit.
Margera has now opened up about the severity of his condition.
Speaking to former Jackass alum and his friend on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast, he explained: “I basically was pronounced dead on Elvis’ birthday – December 8th – I did not know that I had like gnarly Covid, my body was shutting down and I went into four seizures.”
He also said that he had multiple seizures, which would last 10 to 20 minutes each. During the fourth one, he bit his tongue and swallowed some of his blood.
“I bit my tongue so hard it was like nearly falling off, it got so swollen and puffy it wouldn’t fit in my mouth,” Margera shared.
“I was drinking the infected blood which gave me pneumonia as well.”
But after the fifth seizure, he could no longer breathe without the help of a ventilator. The Jackass star remained in the ICU for ten days.
Margera also said that when he finally woke up, he thought he had only been on life support for a few hours and was petrified when he was told that he had been there for almost two weeks.
When he was discharged from the hospital, he took to Instagram and told his followers: “I’m out! Thank you to my friends, family and you for the love, support and prayers.”
