President Joe Biden has made a shocking announcement recently in regards to pardoning nearly 6500 federal convictions for the simple possession of marijuana.
The news was made public on Thursday when he stated how he would be pardoning all Americans who had a history of prior offenses linked to the possession of the simple drug.
Now, officials from the White House were seen claiming how nearly 6500 people would be adversely impacted by such pardons, along with several thousands more that fall under this particular law.
Moreover, the President is now urging fellow state governors of the country to follow in his footsteps and do the same in terms of state convictions.
At the moment, Biden is reportedly having HHS and Attorney General Merrick by his side as they are busy reviewing intensely how the drug is scheduled under the country’s federal law.
For those who aren’t aware, marijuana is considered to be a Schedule 1 drug. And that’s despite the fact that it’s used for medicinal and recreational purposes in so many areas.
It’s interesting to note how the news comes just a month before the critical midterm elections. These are scheduled to take place in the mid of November.
The results will reportedly determine who controls Congress and as you can imagine, it’s huge news.
“No one should be inside prison for using or possessing marijuana”- the President revealed.
The message came in the form of a video where the President could be seen announcing the executive orders. He even went on to add how it’s legal in so many states.
