Meghan Markle was reportedly infuriated by the Vanity Fair cover featuring her along with a “racist” caption.
On the October 2017 cover of the magazine, Meghan’s face appeared along with the title “She’s just wild about Harry!” followed by the caption “Meghan Markle on the sudden glare of the spotlight that comes with being Prince Harry’s Girl.”
“We’re in love. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story,” Meghan was quoted saying in the article.
While the content appeared sweet and Meghan looked absolutely gorgeous on the cover photo, the duchess reportedly hated the way in which her love story was presented.
“She was very unhappy with how that had been handled. And she was looking to throw blame in every possible direction, despite it having been a positive piece,” a source said according to royal author Valentine Low.
In his new book, titled Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown, Low went on to suggest that Meghan raged on about everything she could after the article was published.
“She did not like the photographs. She thought the story was negative. She was upset that it was about Harry, not about her,” the source added.
Apparently, one of the biggest issues was that Meghan thought the headline was racist because the song called ‘I’m Just Wild About Harry’ was performed in 1939 by Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney with the main cast in blackface.
Fuming over the “racist” reference, Meghan and Harry allegedly attempted to have the headline changed. The duchess is also said to have wanted to fire Keleigh Thomas Morgan of Sunshine Sachs whom she at that time just hired as her public relations advisor.
“They [Harry and Meghan] tried to get it changed online, because [they thought] it had been racially motivated. Meghan was so angry with Keleigh, she wanted to fire her,” the insider added.
While the storm eventually settled down, the source suggested there was a rift between Meghan and Keleigh for quite a while after the incident.
