The search for a missing 22-year-old woman, last seen at a gas station in Selma, California, has become a criminal investigation.
According to reports, Jolissa Fuentes had just left her family’s home around 3 am on August 6 to collect some of her personal items from her home.
Around 4 am, she was seen getting out of her silver 2011 Hyundai Accent as she went to a gas station before returning to her car.
Fuentes drove westbound before she disappeared, police said.
Her family said that based on the surveillance footage, when the 22-year-old drove away from the gas station, she went to the wrong direction.
90 minutes after she was last seen, Fuentes called her sister twice but they went unanswered. She has not been heard from since.
Fuentes’ family now turned to the amateur dive team Adventures with Purpose to help check nearby areas as the team has solved more than 20 missing person cases.
They recently found the remains and vehicle of a missing teenager named Kiely Rodni, 16.
In their search for Fuentes, the team searched Pine Flat and Avocado lakes after police said her phone last pinged in that area but the divers couldn’t find any trace of her.
Her aunt, Joanna Branda, said it was a relief that her niece wasn’t found in the area. “It helped relieve us of those thoughts so now we can move on from that,” she said.
Fuentes mother Norma Nunez also said: “This will give us assurance 100%. That is all we have is faith. What else can we do. We know she is out there and we know she is alive.”
