A USPS mailwoman was mauled to death while doing her job after she was attacked by five out-of-control dogs.
62-year-old Pamela Rock was at Interlachen Lake Estates in Interlachen, Florida, when her US Postal Service truck broke down along a road.
While the courier was trying to identify the issue, she was ambushed and mauled by five dogs who managed to get out of their owner’s enclosure.
Rock’s screams and pleas for help quickly spread throughout the neighborhood and concerned residents rushed to the woman’s aid.
She was eventually rushed to the Gainesville trauma center where she succumbed to her injuries.
Following the shocking incident, the authorities confirmed that the dogs managed to escape their enclosure by moving the concrete blocks at the bottom of the fence.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that the authorities were alerted of “aggressive animals” in the neighborhood four times in just three years.
As the locals insisted, the dogs were owned by an elderly man who hadn’t responded well to the residents’ concerns about the animals’ behavior.
Furthermore, one neighbor told The New York Times that the dogs “jumped the fence all the time” and were responsible for the death of another dog in the past.
According to the reports, the dogs were already seized by animal control and will be put down.
It currently remains unclear if the owner will face criminal charges over Rock’s death.
“We are in frequent communications with the state attorney’s office as we explore options as far as possible criminal cases as this case continues,” Colonel Joseph Wells, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy, confirmed during a press conference.
The chief further revealed that “there have been other calls for service regarding these dogs.”
Our thoughts are with Rock’s family and friends during this tragic time.
