The former Marine who shot his father and stepmom in front of his younger sister gave a chilling interview from jail.
23-year-old Irvin Hernandez Flores told KTVU that he had no intention of killing his father, Jose Hernandez, and his stepmother, Yessenia Soto Hernandez, when he entered their bedroom drunk and armed.
He said that he walked into the couple’s room while they were sleeping and his father tried to attack him.
“Once I emptied the clip I turned on the lights and I see him on the floor. And after that I see his suffering and I just stopped his suffering,” Flores said.
When the interviewer asked him if he shot his father again, the former Marine replied: “Yes, ma’am.”
The 23-year-old also said that he had no intention of killing his stepmother.
“She was in the crossfire. I didn’t have any intentions to deal with her,” he said.
He then admitted that he was angry at his father, who ‘shattered his dream’ of becoming a SWAT team sniper.
“All my life I wanted to do good for my family, but my father, he killed my dreams,” Flores said, adding that his memory of the night was blurred as he was intoxicated.
“I don’t remember much, but the gun was legally mine,” he added.
He reportedly served four years in the Marine Corps before being discharged.
After emptying the 20-round clip, Flores said that he helped his 11-year-old sister call 911.
“She wasn’t crying. She was shocked. She needed my help to get in contact with emergency,” he said.
He also apologized to his little sister for taking her mother away.
“I want to apologize. I didn’t entirely want to do this,” he expressed. “Our heavenly father knows I didn’t do this with the intent to kill my father – especially my sister’s mom who had nothing to do with this.”
Flores told the station that he plans to plead not guilty to the murder as he had no intention of killing them.
