A pregnant woman was left fighting for her life after her husband set her on fire as she refused to terminate her pregnancy.
21-year-old Hana Mohammed Khodor from Lebanon was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after her partner used a gas canister to set her ablaze.
Doctors said that her chances of survival are ‘very bleak’ and that the fetus had to be removed from her body after it died.
The heartbreaking incident allegedly started with the husband getting mad at his wife when she told him that she wanted to keep their baby.
Speaking to Arab News, a doctor from Al-Salam Hospital said that Khodor was arrived at the hospital with ‘100 percent body burns.’
“As we speak, she is battling for her life. She is between life and death in the intensive care unit.
“Hana was five months pregnant when the incident happened. The baby died and we had to operate on her to remove the fetus. Her chances of survival are very bleak.”
Doctors have agreed to waive their professional fees but Khodor’s poor family are still facing daily costs of around $400, excluding surgeries and treatments.
Abdul Rahman Haddad, a family friend, said that the 21-year-old’s situation is ‘too delicate and serious.’
“She needs 15 blood platelets (transfusions) daily, and each costs $100, aside from the daily costs of the hospital bed, medical equipment and ICU treatment. Her family is extremely poor, and she is a young woman … they need any form of medical assistance,” he said.
Khodor’s father pleaded for donations from people to contribute towards the treatment to save the life of his daughter.
The husband has been arrested by Lebanese Internal Security Forces.
