Anne Heche’s death has been ruled an accident days after she was declared brain dead.
On August 5, the Six Days Seven Nights star plowed her blue Mini Cooper into a Mar Vista residence at the speed on 90 mph according to the investigators.
Both the house and Heche’s vehicle were badly damaged in the collision.
It has since the crash come to light that the actress was high on cocaine and fentanyl during her high-speed ride through Los Angeles. The authorities, however, confirmed that she didn’t have alcohol in her system.
Now, Heche’s death has officially been ruled an accident by Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner.
As the coroner explained, the 53-year-old suffered “sternal fracture due to blunt trauma” before passing away from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation.
Days after her hospitalization, Heche was declared brain dead with representatives announcing she would remain hooked to life support until viable organs could be harvested as per her wishes.
On Sunday, Anne’s life support was turned off. According to officials, several of her organs were harvested and readied for donation over the weekend.
“We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy,” Heche’s family said in a statement.
“Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.”
While a full autopsy report is yet to be finalized, Los Angeles Police confirmed that the investigation into whether the drugs contributed to the accident or not still continues.
The news comes as Lynne Mishele, the woman whose home was destroyed in the crash, spoke out and shared her sympathy with Anne’s family.
“The news of Anne Heche passing is devastating. Her family and her friends and her children, especially, really have suffered a great loss, and my heart goes out for them,” she said.
“This entire situation is just tragic and there really are just no words. I’m sending love to everyone involved.”
