Ellen DeGeneres has spoken out and broken her silence after her ex-girlfriend Anne Heche’s passing.
Last Friday, 53-year-old Heche was involved in a horrific car crash in Mar Vista, Los Angeles, after plowing her car into a residence at the speed of 90 mph while under the influence of cocaine.
It was later revealed that Heche was left in a severe condition and was unlikely to recover from smoke inhalation and other injuries. Yesterday, the reps for the actress also confirmed that she was brain dead and that her support will be turned off.
Following the shocking passing of the ‘Another World’ star, entertainment figures – including Heche’s ex-lover Ellen DeGeneres – paid the actress touching tributes.
Ellen, who was together with Heche for four years from 1997 to 2000, said: “This is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all of my love.”
While the actress and the former TV show host were vocal about their relationship and even announced plans to get married back in 1999, the pair went their separate ways in 2000 after their relationship “ran its course” as one source put it at the time.
“Unfortunately, we have decided to end our relationship. It is an amicable parting, and we greatly value the 3 1/2 years we have spent together. We hope everyone will respect our privacy through this difficult time,” the couple announced in a joint statement following their breakup.
The former tv host’s tribute comes just days after she confirmed she had lost all touch with the actress when reporters asked her if she had spoken to Heche after the crash.
“We’re not in touch with each other, so I wouldn’t know,” DeGeneres said after Heche’s hospitalization.
“I don’t want anyone to be hurt.”
Our thoughts are with Heche’s family and friends as they continue to grieve.
