Five college students are facing criminal charges after a 19-year-old freshman tragically died in a manmade lake in Texas.
Jack Elliot fell from the bow of a 22ft boat after 21-year-old Daleney Brennan reportedly pushed him while they were flirting with each other in October 2019.
According to reports, the two had been ‘kissing’ when Delaney gave him a ‘playful shove’ but the teen fell overboard and hit a propeller.
Students who were present tried to hide the truth by lying to officials, dumping their alcoholic beverages of the side of the boat and pleading ignorance to the freshman’s family.
The truth came out in a wrongful death lawsuit launched by Elliot’s family.
One of the teens on the boat, Elle Weber, described in a sworn statement: “Delaney and Jack were at the front of the boat, flirting and kissing.
“She gave Jack a ‘playful little shove’ and he fell off the boat.”
12 Texas Christian University students were wakeboarding and drinking when the tragedy occurred.
Jack’s grieving family fought to know what really happened to their son.
Months after the Jack’s death, Weber admitted that she hadn’t revealed the full story. “I was scared and in shock about what happened. I wish it had not happened and I wish I’d told police everything the first time.”
Another teen said Delaney panicked while repeating: “He fell! I didn’t mean to push him.”
Delaney revealed that she got a tattoo of Jack’s initials on her wrist as a reminder of how much “he loved life.”
She is now one of the students facing criminal charges after it was concluded that they have a case to answer for concerning the story cover-up.
Delaney was indicted on a felony charge of tampering with evidence and could face up to ten years behind bars and a $10,000 fine.
