The heartbroken mother of Archie Batterbee says she will give her son mouth-to-mouth when his life support is removed after losing their court appeal to keep him alive.
Paul Battersbee and Hollie Dance have filed an application to the court to have their 12-year-old son moved to hospice.
According to reports, the court is now considering the application after the European Court of Human Rights rejected a request to delay withdrawing treatment.
The schoolboy is being kept alive by drug treatments, ventilation and medical intervention after he was found unresponsive by his mother in April.
Archie remains at the Royal London Hospital but his parents want to be allowed to choose where their son will spend his final moments after losing their court appeal to keep him alive.
Barts Health NHS Trust said that they will not turn off the life support until all issues have been addressed.
Mrs. Dance said: “If Archie is denied oxygen if and when life-support is removed I will continue to give him oxygen – I pray that the High Court will do the right thing.
“If they refuse permission for us to take him to a hospice and for him to receive palliative oxygen it will simply be inhumane and nothing about Archie’s ‘dignity’.
“The whole system has been stacked against us. Reform must now come through Charlie’s Law so that no parents have to go through this. We will fight to the end for Archie’s right to live.”
The Barts Health NHS Trust explained that transferring the child to hospice would come with ‘considerable risk.’
“This means that in his condition, transfer by ambulance to a completely different setting would most likely hasten the premature deterioration the family wish to avoid, even with full intensive care equipment and staff on the journey. We have explained this to his family,” it said.
Archie has been in a coma since suffering a catastrophic injury after taking part in an online challenge.
