It was recently posted on social media that Leave It To Beaver star Tony Dow has passed away at the age of 77.
The false announcement, which was credited to Renee James and Frank Bilotta, claimed that the actor had already passed away.
But the star’s son Christopher Dow immediately told Fox News Digital that his father was still alive and ‘in his last hours.’
In a statement shared on Tony Dow’s Facebook account, Christopher said: “This s a difficult time. Dad is at home, under hospice care, and in his last hours. My wife and I are by his side along with many friends that have visited. He has a fighting heart.”
After the false statement, Dow’s former costar Jerry Mathers took to Facebook and shared an emotional tribute, writing that the news of his death “leaves an empty place in my heart.”
The announcement came two months after it was revealed that Dow had been diagnosed with cancer.
Another Facebook post from TV producer Jay Kernis read: “I just phoned Lauren Dow to offer condolences and she said someone has made a terrible mistake. Tony is with hospice and breathing. Still alive. I know, what a strange day!”
Kernis also included an old picture of them sitting outside while having a good conversation.
According to reports, Tony had suffered health setbacks on Monday night. Lauren, who had been feeling ‘fuzzy’ these days, had “inferred that Tony had passed away to some people close to her and the word quickly spread.”
She also said that she felt ‘foolish’ about the incorrect announcement, saying ‘it is of my own doing.’
Lauren also said that she ‘loves and adores’ her husband with all her heart as she apologized for the mistake.
