A young boy was left fighting for his life after he was severely mauled by a dog during a family trip to a remote campground.
The tragic incident took place at a camping site in Gnaraloo, Western Australia, where an 8-year-old boy was reportedly camping with his family.
At around 7.30 am on Saturday, the boy was attacked by a friend’s dog. It was not immediately clear if the dog behind the attack belongs to the boy’s friend or a family friend.
Following the attack, the child was airlifted to Carnarvon Hospital in a Royal Flying Doctor Service aircraft.
While the extent of his injuries remains unclear, the police have since claimed that photos showing the boy’s injuries were “too gruesome” to be released to the public.
Following his emergency treatment at the hospital, the child was transferred to Perth Children’s Hospital where he is undergoing additional treatment.
According to the reports, the 8-year-old suffered multiple severe lacerations to his head and face.
The boy is expected to survive the ordeal but could be left permanently disfigured.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the dog attack and the circumstances of the family’s outing.
After “initial inquiries” were made by the Western Australian Police, the Shire of Carnarvon Rangers reportedly took over the investigation.
As of this moment, no charges have yet been filed against the dog’s owner.
Our thoughts remain with the victim of the dog attack and the boy’s family.
