The runner who reportedly passed away after crossing the finish line of the Brooklyn Half Marathon race has been pictured.
According to local media reports, at least 16 of the race’s participants are stated to have been rushed to the hospital because of the sweltering temperatures on the day that the race had taken place.
And that’s why authorities are now questioning the race organizers and other officials about whether or not the race should have even taken place on that day or not.
The victim was identified as 32 year David Reichman who had reportedly collapsed, moments after he decided to cross the finish line.
He was stated to be a relationship expert who hailed from Brooklyn. But despite paramedics’ efforts to rescue him by rushing him to a nearby hospital, he had died before he even got there, as mentioned by cops’ reports.
Other sources have gone on to confirm how Saturday was reportedly the hottest day in the month of May that has ever been recorded in the northwestern part of the country.
New York City’s temperatures soared to new extremes with it being nearly 80 degrees during the morning hours. And by the time it was noon, temperatures had crossed the 100 degrees Fahrenheit mark.
The tragic participant’s death that had taken place on that day is said to have been the first-ever fatality since the year 2014.
The exact location of the race has recently been unveiled as being the Ocean Parkway which is located towards Brighton Beach Avenue in Coney Island.
While investigations into the horrifying incident take place, the cause of death of the runner is believed to be a cardiac arrest while the medical examiner is yet to release any report in this regard.
