A 21-year-old mother who was killed in front of her baby made a desperate call to the police before she was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend.
Police found Mackenzie Anderson unresponsive outside her home in Newcastle at about 10:40 pm on Friday.
Tyrone Thompson, the man accused of murdering her, was found ‘crouched over her body’ when officers arrived at her home.
According to reports, Thompson broke into Anderson’s home, prompting the young mother to report him to the police.
But only minutes before the police arrived, the mother had been stabbed 20 times and her son, who was unharmed, was found drenched in her blood.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, a police source said that Anderson was clinging to life when officers arrived minutes after she called.
“She was still breathing,” the source said. Sadly, the young mother died only minutes after police officers arrived at the scene.
One heartbroken friend told the news outlet that the mother was “holding out to make sure her baby was going to be okay.
“He was her world. She was such a great mama and that little boy changed everything for her.”
Anderson and Thompson had previously been in a relationship. The young mom had just moved on with someone new and was hopeful for the year ahead.
Only weeks before she was killed, she made an eerie post saying she’d ‘haunt’ her ex if he ever showed up at her funeral.
She claimed that she was a victim of sustained violence as she shared heartbreaking photos of her busted and bruised face.
Grieving family members and friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover ongoing expenses relating to the care of Anderson’s child.
