A grieving father has warned Russians that he is out for revenge after his son tragically died fighting the invaders.
The man who appeared to be emotionally drained told ViceWorldNEws reporter Valerie Kipnis that his son died fighting in Kharkiv.
“You see I am overwhelmed by feelings,” he expressed. “My son told me ‘dad, it’s bad, it is very bad. But we are holding on, it’s okay.”
A voice behind the camera explained that the father “wants to take his place.”
He then turned his attention towards the Russian troops and said: “Don’t come here. You will die. You killed my son. I will kill your son.”
His son is one of more than 1,300 Ukrainian fighters who died in battle.
The cities of Kharkiv, Mariupol, Sumy and Chernihiv are all surrounded by Russian forces and subject to the most missile strikes and brutal shelling.
Ukrainian soldiers told BBC correspondent Quentin Sommerville that they were ‘fighting like lions’ as they showed him some of the bodies of dead soldiers in the snow.
“The Russians are fighting like soldiers of 1941,” one Ukrainian man said.
“They are attacking just like in front, they don’t do any maneuvers. They have a lot of people, tanks and vehicles but we are fighting for our land and we are protecting our families.
“It doesn’t matter how they fight, we fight like lions and they won’t win.”
The mayor of Kharkiv said that the city had been under constant attack by invaders who had caused number of casualties by firing at central districts.
“They’re firing at us constantly,” Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.
