A 7-months-pregnant woman was left fighting for her life after being shot in the stomach by her Uber driver.
The incident took place in Atlanta, Georgia, where a 37-year-old heavily pregnant lady called for an Uber ride to return to her father’s apartment from her friend’s home on Saturday at around 10 pm.
As the victim’s father, Kenneth Anderson, has since revealed, his daughter was picked up by a man who claimed to be her Uber driver even though his car differed from the one listed in the app.
After sitting in the car and beginning her journey to her father’s place, the woman, who remains unnamed for her own safety, confronted the driver and asked him why he was driving a car different than the one listed.
“She said, ‘He got smart with me and I got smart with him. We argued from when he picked me up to here,’” Anderson said as he recalled what his daughter had told him.
After arriving at the destination, the driver went on to shoot the pregnant woman in the stomach and in her thigh before fleeing the scene and leaving the 37-year-old to die.
“It’s pretty much like I kind of blacked out and was trying to hold on. I was running wild. I probably dialed 911 like 10 times. I kept screaming,” Anderson added.
“When police pulled up, I started screaming at them telling them to come up and seek medical.”
Fortunately, the woman was quickly rushed to the hospital where she had to undergo an emergency C-section. Both the mother and the baby survived the ordeal and are currently in stable condition.
“What made him jump out of the car and shoot her knowing she’s pregnant? Even if she wasn’t… it’s just still reeling through my head,” Anderson concluded as he said he isn’t revealing his daughter’s name because the suspect is still on the run.
The case remains under investigation and the suspect is yet to be identified and apprehended as of this writing.
