A woman suffered a cruel end as she fell to her death during an incident at a Florida drawbridge.
On Sunday afternoon at around 1 pm, an unnamed woman fell to her death after slipping to the gap between the road and the drawbridge connecting Florida mainland to Palm Beach.
As the incident at the Royal Park Bridge remains under investigation, the authorities have confirmed that the woman, who was walking her bike, fell to her death after the drawbridge started rising.
While it is not clear if the woman had intentionally walked past the safety barrier after warnings or not, it was so far confirmed that she was within ten feet of the barrier when the bridge started going up.
The tragic incident was witnessed by an unnamed bystander who rushed to the woman’s aid after she slipped through the gap.
Though the lady attempted to hold on, the person helping her wasn’t able to pull her to safety. After he had lost his grip, the woman plunged 60 feet to her death. She was later found dead on the concrete beneath the bridge.
“The woman tried to hang on. There was a bystander nearby who tried to help her, but tragically she fell five or six stories below where she died landing on concrete,” Mike Jachles of the West Palm Beach Police revealed.
Jachles also confirmed that the police are focusing on investigating why the accident had happened in the first place and who was in the wrong.
The police are now working to determine whether the woman ignored warning signals and approached the bridge after the safety barrier was lowered or whether the bridge tender violated safety protocols by raising the bridge without making sure it was clear of people.
